Calfresh Fruit and Veggie EBT Incentives: Frequently Asked Questions
What is happening to the Calfresh Fruit and Veggie EBT Pilot Program?
The CalFresh Fruit and Veggie EBT Pilot Program will pause on January 31, 2025. No bonus dollars will be available after January 31 at any participating stores.
What is changing?
If you purchase fruits or veggies at participating stores using your EBT card, you will not receive bonus dollars after January 31. This is because the pilot program will not be active. You can still use your EBT/CalFresh card like normal to buy groceries.
Why is the CalFresh Fruit and Veggie EBT Pilot Program ending?
The money approved for the program in 2024-2025 was limited. Funds are running out so the program will have to stop for now.
Will the CalFresh Fruit and Veggie EBT Pilot Program restart?
The program could start again if the California legislature and governor approve more funding in the 2025-26 budget or in the future.
When will we know if the program starts again?
We won't know until the state budget is approved in July 2025. To stay informed visit: www.DoubleUpCA.org
What will happen to the money I receive before January 31?
Money you receive before January 31 will stay in your Calfresh/EBT account until you spend it as long as your CalFresh account is still active.
Will the money I receive in January be taken away?
No, any bonus dollars received for buying fruits and veggies using your EBT card before January 31 will stay in your EBT account until you spend it as long as your CalFresh account is still active.
